Botany uses an applied approach that begins with molecular details in biochemistry and ends with cellular details in cell biology to give students a comprehensive understanding that will develop a critical insight into the specialized areas of plant sciences. It will be possible to comprehend the fascinating processes of plants, including their growth, development, anatomy, morphology, taxonomy, chemical properties, genetics, ecology, and evolution, by taking a botany course called Fundamental Introduction. Plants employ various techniques to identify external stressors. Environmental stress alters many physiological processes in plants and interferes with their growth and development by affecting ion transport, protein or RNA stability, and other cellular functions. By studying plant physiology, students can find solutions to these problems. New areas of research include Forensic Botany, which uses plants to find traces of criminal activity, Economic Botany, which studies the use of the plant kingdom, and Genetic Engineering, which tackles the issue of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Among the busiest and most practical fields in which the research will be done are plant tissue culture, biotechnology, eco-physiology, plant physiology, biochemistry, plant pathology, plant anatomy, and environmental biology.
Genetics has become an indispensable component of almost all research in modern biology and medicine. In order to meet the challenging demands, subjects like Principles of Genetics, Plant Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant Molecular and Microbial Genetics, Recombinant DNA Technology, Biotechnology, Biochemical techniques would orient the students in modern research areas. Besides this, important and core issues related to agriculture are also taught, given its importance for Pakistan. It is compulsory for all the students to conduct a research project. The research would be carried out in most active and applied areas like Plant Tissue Culture, Biotechnology, Eco-physiology, Phyto-physiology, Biochemistry, Phyto-pathology and Plant Anatomy and Environmental Biology.
Our vision is to become progressive department that serve as a national centre for the plant sciences by training the Graduates who will be the leaders in botanical education and research and to energize the public appreciation of plants, fungi and protists.
Our mission is to discover and convey the scientific knowledge about the biology of plants at the organism, community and ecosystem level and to promote awareness and appreciation of diverse and vibrant field of botany. Our core value is plant biology including critical interactions and relationships to other organisms. The department has expertise in two broad areas: the microbial and cellular / molecular levels, these two strengths continue to enhance these areas. The program endeavors to prepare students for a professional career as a plant scientist with expertise and proven credentials both as a scholar and as a teacher.
Admission Requirments
Qualifications:
F.Sc (Pre Medical) with minimum 60% marks OR A-level in three main subjects (no subsidiary) with minimum Grade B (60%) with Equivalence Certificate OR Grade 12 with minimum Grade B (60%) with Equivalence Certificate.
Degree Requirments
To receive BS Botany degree, a student must complete a total of 136 credit hours with a minimum CGPA of 2.50.

Active Citizenship Program
Active Citizenship program offered by Kinnaird College in collaboration with British Council and HEC is a social leadership training program that promotes intercultural dialogue and community-led social development. It is a mandatory requirement for the completion of underGraduate degree and based on two semesters. All students will study the theoretical portion through different activities starting in their 3rd semester. They will plan their social action projects in 4th semester and implement it in the field.
