BS Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (RS & GIS) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that integrates the principles of remote sensing technologies with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications. Remote sensing refers to the process of acquiring information about the Earth's surface from a distance, typically using satellite, aerial, or drone-mounted sensors. GIS, on the other hand, involves the storage, analysis, and visualization of spatial data for a wide range of applications. To stay abreast of emerging technologies and evolving global demands, this program is designed for students with interests in environmental management, information technology, surveying, agriculture, forestry, business management, archaeology, military sciences, and geography. The curriculum includes training in the use of key software platforms such as ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, Python, and QGIS. Additionally, students will develop proficiency in Global Positioning Systems (GPS), satellite and aerial imagery analysis, and other spatial technologies.
Graduates of this program will possess a strong theoretical understanding of remote sensing and GIS, coupled with practical experience that positions them competitively in the job market. The skill set acquired through this degree opens up diverse career opportunities across the public and private sectors.
